Work out sale prices, savings and discount percentages in seconds

This discount calculator works in both directions. In "Apply Discount" mode you enter a price and a percentage off, and it shows the sale price along with exactly how much you save. In "Find Discount %" mode you enter the original and the sale price, and it calculates the percentage discount — the quickest way to check whether a shop's "huge sale" really is what it claims. Preset buttons for 10%, 20%, 25%, 50% and 70% are one tap away, and you can type any rate you like. Results update instantly and nothing is ever sent to a server.

Discount Formulas & Quick Table

Formulas

  • Saving = Price × (Rate ÷ 100)
  • Sale price = Price × (1 − Rate ÷ 100)
  • Discount % = (Original − Sale) ÷ Original × 100
  • Example: 100, 20% off → save 20, pay 80

Quick Look on a Price of 100

  • 10% off → 90 (save 10)
  • 20% off → 80 (save 20)
  • 25% off → 75 (save 25)
  • 50% off → 50 (save 50)
  • 70% off → 30 (save 70)

The Stacked-Discount Trap

"50% off plus an extra 20%" is NOT 70% off.

  • 100 × 0.50 = 50 (first discount)
  • 50 × 0.80 = 40 (second discount)
  • Real discount: 60%, not 70%

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate 20% off a price?

Multiply the price by 0.80. For example, 20% off 100 is 100 × 0.80 = 80, and the saving is 20. In the tool, type the price and tap the 20% button.

How do I find the discount percentage?

Choose "Find Discount %" and enter the original and sale prices. The formula is (Original − Sale) ÷ Original × 100. An item cut from 100 to 75 is 25% off.

Do stacked discounts add up?

No. "50% off plus an extra 20%" is 60% off in total, not 70%, because the second discount applies to what's left after the first: 100 → 50 → 40.

How do I find the original price from a sale price?

Divide the sale price by (1 − rate). For example, an item at 80 after 20% off was originally 80 ÷ 0.80 = 100.

Is tax applied before or after the discount?

Shelf prices usually already include VAT, so the discount applies to the tax-inclusive price and the result stays tax-inclusive. To separate the net amount, use the VAT calculator.

Are the prices I enter stored?

No. All calculations run in your browser; values are only kept locally on your device for convenience.
