Fraction Calculator
Four operations, simplifying and decimal to fraction
Free Fraction Calculator
Add, subtract, multiply, divide, simplify and convert
The fraction calculator adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides two fractions and shows the result as a simplified fraction, a mixed number, a decimal and a percentage, with the working written out. Simplify mode reduces a fraction by dividing numerator and denominator by their GCD; decimal mode turns a number such as 0.375 into 3/8. Everything is computed with exact integer arithmetic, so the results are precise. Handy for checking homework, scaling recipes and converting measurements.

Rules and Examples
Rules
- Add/subtract: common denominator → a/b ± c/d = (ad ± bc)/bd
- Multiply: numerators and denominators → a/b × c/d = ac/bd
- Divide: flip the second fraction and multiply → a/b ÷ c/d = ad/bc
- Reduce the result with the GCD
Examples
- 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6
- 3/4 × 2/5 = 6/20 = 3/10
- 2/3 ÷ 4/9 = 2/3 × 9/4 = 18/12 = 3/2 = 1 1/2
- 18/24 → GCD 6 → 3/4
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add fractions?
Bring them to a common denominator: 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6. The calculator finds the common denominator and simplifies the result automatically.
How do I simplify a fraction?
Divide numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor: for 18/24 the GCD is 6, giving 3/4.
What is a mixed number?
An improper fraction written as a whole part plus a fraction: 7/4 = 1 3/4. The calculator shows it in a separate box.
How do I convert a decimal to a fraction?
Divide by the power of ten matching the decimal places and simplify: 0.375 = 375/1000 = 3/8.
Can I enter negative fractions?
Yes, put a minus sign on the numerator or denominator; the result shows the sign on the numerator.
