Keyboard Test – Check Every Key
Press each key — tested keys turn green
Just start typing. Shortcuts like F5 or Tab are blocked while you test.
Online Keyboard Tester
Find dead, stuck or ghosting keys in a minute
Press the keys on your keyboard one by one: each key lights up while it is held down and stays green once it has been registered, so dead keys are easy to spot – they simply never turn green. The counter shows how many of the drawn keys you have tested. Key labels adapt to your layout as you type (for example Ş, Ğ, Ü on a Turkish keyboard or Ñ on a Spanish one), and you can switch between ANSI and ISO shapes. For each press you see event.key, event.code and the legacy keyCode plus whether it was the left or right key. Hold several keys together to check rollover and ghosting: the panel shows how many keys are detected at the same time and the maximum reached. Browser shortcuts are blocked during the test so F5, Tab or Backspace do not interfere.

Keyboard Test Tips
What to check
- Every key turns green when pressed
- Keys do not stay lit after release (stuck key)
- Both Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys register separately
- Arrow keys and navigation block
- Rollover: hold 6+ keys for gaming keyboards
Common problems
- Key never lights up: dead switch or dirt under the cap
- Key lights up twice: switch chatter (double typing)
- Combos missing: ghosting on cheap membrane keyboards
- Wrong letters: OS layout differs from the keyboard
- Fn keys: many laptops need the Fn key for F1–F12
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I test my keyboard?
Press every key once. Keys that work turn green; a key that never turns green is not registering. Use Reset to start over.
What is keyboard ghosting and rollover?
Rollover is how many keys can be pressed at once and still be detected; ghosting means some combinations are lost or phantom keys appear. Hold several keys and watch the “pressed now / max” counter.
Why does PrintScreen or Fn not light up?
Some keys are handled by the operating system or the keyboard itself and never reach the browser (Fn, some media keys). PrintScreen often only sends a key-up event, which is enough here.
Can I test a laptop keyboard?
Yes. Function keys F1–F12 may need the Fn key on laptops. Keys missing from your laptop can simply be ignored.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
It needs a physical keyboard. Connect a Bluetooth or USB keyboard to your tablet or phone to test it.
