Online Snake: The Classic Arcade Game
Guide the snake to the food, grow longer and don't hit yourself — you can pass through the walls.
Snake is a timeless arcade game: you steer a growing snake around the board, eating food to score points. Every apple makes the snake one segment longer and nudges the pace a little faster, so the game gets harder the better you do. By default the snake passes through the walls: it leaves one edge and reappears on the opposite side, so a round only ends when it runs into its own body. Prefer the classic experience? Turn wall pass-through off in the settings and hitting a wall ends the game too. This version runs entirely in your browser with three speed settings, on-screen arrows, swipe gestures and full keyboard support, so it plays just as well on a phone as on a desktop. Your best score for each speed is saved locally on your device, giving you a target to beat every time you come back.

How to Play
Basic rules
- Move the snake toward the food to eat it
- Each food makes the snake longer and adds a point
- With pass-through on you come out on the opposite edge; with it off, a wall ends the game
- Running into your own body ends the game
Tips
- You can't reverse straight back on yourself
- Leave yourself room — don't trap the head in a corner
- Plan a path along the edges when the snake is long
- Slow down first if the fast speed feels too much
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you play Snake?
Steer the snake with the arrow keys, WASD, the on-screen arrows or a swipe. Eat the food to grow and score; avoid crashing into the snake's own body. In the default mode you can pass through the walls; in classic mode hitting a wall ends the game too.
How do I turn pass-through walls on or off?
Pass-through walls are on by default: when the snake leaves one edge of the board it comes back in on the opposite side. If you prefer the classic game, switch off "Pass through walls" in the Settings card below the game; in that mode hitting a wall ends the round. Your choice is remembered in your browser and each mode keeps its own high scores.
How do the speed levels work?
Slow, Medium and Fast set how quickly the snake moves at the start. On every level the snake also speeds up gradually as it grows, so longer games get more intense.
How is my high score saved?
Your best score is stored in your browser separately for each speed and mode (wall pass-through on or off). It stays on your device and is shown next to your current score, so you always know the number to beat.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. You can swipe on the board to change direction or use the on-screen arrow pad below it. The game is designed to work well on touch screens as well as with a keyboard.
Can I pause the game?
Yes, tap the pause button next to the score, or press the space bar. Tap the board or press space again to resume right where you left off.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It's completely free and needs no account. The whole game runs in your browser — no installation, no sign-in and nothing leaves your device.
