Free Online Metronome
Precise timing with accented beats and tap tempo
This online metronome uses your browser's Web Audio engine to produce ticks with millisecond accuracy. Set any tempo from 30 to 250 BPM with the slider or arrow keys, choose 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 or 6/8 time and watch the accented first beat light up. Tap the tempo button a few times in rhythm with a song to find its BPM automatically, and pick a click, wood or beep sound. The tempo name (Andante, Allegro…) is shown next to the BPM. Your settings are remembered on your device. Use it for guitar, piano and drum practice, running cadence or focused work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a metronome for?
It keeps a steady tempo so you can build a sense of rhythm and notice when you speed up or slow down while practising.
What does BPM mean?
Beats per minute. 60 BPM is one beat per second; 120 BPM is two beats per second.
How does tap tempo work?
Tap the button at least twice in time with the music; the metronome averages the intervals and sets the BPM.
There is no sound. What should I do?
Make sure the device is not muted; browsers require a tap before playing audio, so press Start first. On iOS the silent switch can mute Web Audio too.
Does it keep running in the background?
Browsers throttle timers in background tabs, so the metronome stops when the tab is hidden; keep the tab in the foreground.
